Introduction
This privacy policy explains our approach regarding information relating to users of our Voyel application. Voyel is a comprehensive travel planning and management application for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
Precellence Software is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal data.
1. Data Collection and Storage
Voyel is designed with respect for your privacy:
- Local Storage: All your travel data, events, checklists, documents, and companions are stored locally on your device
- CloudKit Sync: If you enable iCloud synchronization, your data is encrypted and stored securely in your personal iCloud account using CloudKit. This includes your scanned travel documents (PDFs, images, e.g. boarding passes or hotel confirmations) and the contact details of any travel companions you add (name, phone numbers, emails). We do not have access to this data
- No Personal Data Collection: We do not collect, track, or share any personal information with third parties
- No Cookies: The application does not use any cookies or tracking technologies
- No Analytics: We do not use any analytics or tracking services
2. Permissions and Data Access
Voyel may request the following permissions to provide its features:
- Location Services: Used to calculate trip times from your current position and display your location on maps. Location data is only used locally and is not transmitted to external servers
- Photo Library: Used to select images for document scanning. You can choose which photos to share with the app
- Camera: Used to scan travel documents. Images are processed locally on your device
- Contacts: Used to add travel companions from your contacts and facilitate communication. Contact information is stored locally and synced via CloudKit if enabled
- Notifications: Used to send reminders for events and incomplete checklists. Notifications are managed locally and through Apple's push notification service
3. AI and Document Processing
Voyel includes AI-powered document processing features:
- Apple Intelligence (default): When you use AI features to extract events from documents, processing is performed using Apple Intelligence on your device by default. In this mode, no data is sent to external AI services
- Optional cloud providers: You may choose to enable event extraction via a third-party provider (OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Mistral) in Settings > AI & Document Processing, using your own API key. This mode is off by default, requires you to enter your own key, and requires you to accept a separate disclaimer before first use. If you enable it, the text extracted from your document (via on-device OCR) is sent to your selected provider's servers under that provider's own privacy policy and terms
- Local OCR: Document scanning and text extraction (OCR) always happen locally on your device, regardless of which AI provider you choose. Only if you explicitly enable a cloud provider is the extracted text sent externally
- API Keys: Cloud provider API keys are stored securely in your device's Keychain and are never included in app backups or synced via CloudKit
- Document Storage: Scanned documents (PDFs, images) are stored locally on your device and optionally synced via CloudKit to your personal iCloud account
4. Third-Party Services
Voyel uses the following services:
- Apple iCloud (CloudKit): For data synchronization across your Apple devices (optional). All data is encrypted and stored in your personal iCloud account — this includes your travel details, scanned document files, and the contact information (phone numbers, emails) of any travel companions you add. We do not have access to your iCloud data
- Apple Maps: For displaying maps and calculating routes. Map data is provided by Apple and subject to Apple's privacy policy
- WeatherKit: For displaying weather information in the app. Weather data is provided by Apple and subject to Apple's privacy policy
- Apple Push Notifications: For sending reminders and notifications. Notification data is managed by Apple's push notification service
- OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Mistral AI (optional, user-enabled): Only used if you enable cloud-based document processing in Settings and supply your own API key. The text extracted from your travel documents is then sent to your selected provider. This is disabled by default — see each provider's own privacy policy for how they handle this data
5. Data Usage
Your data is used solely for:
- Displaying and organizing your travel information
- Synchronizing across your Apple devices (if iCloud sync is enabled)
- Providing location-based features (maps, route calculation)
- Processing documents and extracting events using AI
- Sending notifications and reminders
6. Data Security
We take data security seriously:
- All data stored locally is protected by iOS, iPadOS, and macOS security features
- Data synced via CloudKit is encrypted in transit and at rest
- We do not transmit your data to any external servers except Apple's iCloud service (if enabled), or your chosen AI provider's servers if you explicitly enable cloud-based document processing (see Section 3)
- No third-party analytics or tracking services are used
7. Children's Privacy
Voyel is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Updates
Application updates are managed exclusively through the App Store (iOS, iPadOS, and macOS), ensuring the security and integrity of the update process.
